I have heard Toronto is close to acquiring a "bad contract" from a western conference team, and in exchange will also obtain 2 draft picks, one of them a 1st rounder.
The contract Toronto would be receiving has 2 years left on it, I haven't got a name yet however, still digging.
Just a thought. But if Burke is taking on salary to get draft picks. Does that mean, even he has given up on the Phil Kessel plan? I mean if he wants to make the team better NOW (as has been his plan) draft picks aren't the way to go. Hmmm...
even though Burke defends that trade, I am 100% positive they don't make it again as he says he would, Kessel needs a star to play with, he isn't one himself.
Yeah, he definitely cannot go on and say he regrets it, even though he obviously does. He doesn't want to look like he's bad-mouthing the player who should be the best on his team.
And I think trading for draft picks is more a matter of necessity than choice. Clearly the player for player trades Burke would like to pull off just aren't there. He knows he has to do something, get something for some of these players, so draft picks are the next best thing.
well my source wasn't far off on this one, Toronto got the bad contract from the Western Conference team, I guess Gardiner can be considered a first rounder plus the conditional. Thumbs up to you source! ;)

ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I echo your comments 100%.
ReplyDeleteHe has to say that he'd make that trade again, he already did it!
