Wednesday Rumor Updates

Edmonton Oiler Zack Stortini has cleared waivers

Toronto Maple Leafs resign Mike Brown to 3 year extension
760k next season, 725k for 2012-13 / 2013-14
Brown signed to 3 year extension

Toronto continues to talk with both Los Angeles and Edmonton, The Leafs are trying to pry Brayden Schenn out of LA but with the recent news of Kaberle not willing to offer a list of teams, this could put an end to the deal.

The Edmonton Oilers have been in intense discussions with Toronto over Sheldon Souray, moving Souray and his contract would be a gift to the Oilers and the Leafs will get picks in return for taking on the salary.

Chris Phillips is close to being moved to the Boston Bruins, I am hearing a 2nd round pick is the starting point, Ottawa is pushing for a 1st.

Maple Leaf Rumor Update, BIG ONE!

King me?
To all you trade starved Leaf fans out there, I got this one early this morning, but had to verify a few things in the later afternoon before I posted it up, and something GRAND has been put on the table!

Toronto has offered a multi player package to Los Angeles for Brayden Schenn & Wayne Simmonds, Burke is stepping it up here and really putting the pressure on LA.

From what I hearing, Toronto has offered Clarke MacArthur, Tomas Kaberle and "their best D prospect" who I am guessing is Keith Aulie? the ball is in the Kings court now.

If this gets done it will be a whopper, and great for both teams in my opinion.

Toronto Bound?
In other rumor news, The Flyers waived Matt Walker to make cap room, which could be a precursor to either Eric Cole or J.S. Giguere, they can't afford both.

Calgary seems to be readying for a deal of some sort by waiving Conroy and Kotalik, and they could be doing something major as well.

Thursday Evening Rumor Mill - Antropov/Penner

just a quick note for everyone.

The Atlanta Thrashers have made it known that Nikolai Antropov is available, as well as Fredrik Modin & Ron Hainsey, will continue to watch and update you all on this.

Dustin Penner is likely headed out of Edmonton, possible destinations being discussed include Montreal, who could use a big body on their forward lines with some skill.

NHL Trade Rumor Chart will be updated tomorrow morning to reflect current news.

Leafs ready to deal, Ottawa version of "Flip this House" about to begin.

The Toronto Maple Leafs brass met late last night and well into today as they schemed the rest of the season, and what their plan will be heading into the NHL Trade Deadline, it is widely expected that Toronto will move J.S. Giguere, Tomas Kaberle (I have heard he will waive his NMC this year), Fredrik Sjostrom and Francois Beauchemin, Burke is not heavily in favor of trading Beauchemin, but the Leafs need quality returns, and Beauchemin is replaceable.

Toronto is currently looking at a few options, including LA's Brayden Schenn, and Dallas forward Brad Richards.

Also, I have been hearing rumors out of Tampa that Stamkos and Yzerman are not seeing eye to eye on a renewal, Stamkos wants Crosby/Ovechkin money, and is being offered less (Tampa can't afford to pay him at that level).

Enter the Toronto Maple Leafs, if Stamkos and Yzerman can not agree by seasons end, I can almost guarantee Brian Burke will tender a max contract offer sheet to Steven Stamkos that Tampa could not match.

Ottawa is in the midst of working on deals that would send Chris Phillips(Phoenix, Boston), Mike Fisher (Los Angeles) & Alexei Kovalev (they are praying someone takes him) I believe someone will, look for the Rangers to make a pitch.

Monday Evening NHL Rumors

I have been hearing that Los Angeles is in discussions with Ottawa involving Mike Fisher, the Kings believe that Fisher will add a veteran presence to their lineup and some grit as they try to move towards a playoff push, talks also continue with Toronto involving Brayden Schenn.

Staying with Ottawa, Owner Eugene Melnyk gave a vote of confidence at least for the rest of this season for GM Bryan Murray and Head Coach Corey Clouston.

Calgary's recent win streak has changed some minds about a full retool heading into the trade deadline, a few more wins and they may decide to run with what they have until next season.

More to come later
